May 5, 2016 Pupdate

The little ones were awake and talking to someone at 5:50am.  I put my fingers through the ex pen but I did not get up and their mama did not go in to feed them either.  They settled back down and went back to sleep until about 7.  Tamara was up then and we did feed the pupsters a healthy breakfast.  The Mama came in immediately afterward to clean up and top them off.

I wisely observed the rest of their antics from the ottobenbed and we went back to sleep about the same time.  Mila checked on me a few times but I managed to get a another hour or 2 of sleep.  I needed it.

When they awoke again, we took them out on the deck.  We were cold but they weren't.  It's hard to convince some of them to lie on the warmer blankies than on the deck, their Mama always ran hot so I'm not all that surprised.  They played and played and pottied and played and then slept.  Tamara about froze to death (I was in and out of the rubber room changing out their linens and rearranging the pen in preparation for the expansion.  I am about to steam the floor so in the am, I'll do the expansion.)

After that nap, we fed them a picnic lunch.  They ate out of the larger puppy saucer this time and then they attempted to eat out of the small plastic container that contained the warmed up puppy food.  Phlox was into that first and had kefir and puppy food all over her head.  It took her Mama a long time to clean her up. First she had to wait while we made certain all of the puppies had their fill, then the Mama wanted to clean up the dish before puppies, then she wanted to clean up pee before heads.  Mila also wanted to clean out that container but I didn't want it all over her face so I took it into the house.

Eventually, WE decided that everyone would be more comfortable if they came inside so we brought them in (much like putting a sweater on a baby when you are cold) the pen.  They mostly went to sleep before playing with the new arrangements.  They took full advantage after they awoke. (There is a video of the big evening playtime on the Mila/Griffin facbook page)

They are quite adept at the Totofit equipment and are in and out of the toy container (it's a plastic beverage cooler) and are not fazed by the lazy susan either.  It amazes me how fast they can run in relatively small spaces and not crash into anything unintentionally (they will intentionally crash into one another).  It is really cute to hear them doing it, too.

We did another grooming session with them tonight.  I held them instead of trying to stand them on the table (although each stands on the table - with support/restraint - at least once a day for a little brushing/handling) and they were all very good little lions.  We only do behinds at this age and only used a 7 blade but little lion butts are high on the list of the cutest things ever.  Then they ate dinner and I went to wash the hair off of me (grooming smock doesn't make much difference when you are cuddling puppies during/after clipping).

We held a weight watchers meeting while they were sleepy (we started the hair cuts while they were sleepng but they were awake by the time we finished) and there is a difference of 1 lb between the smallest girlies and the largest boys.  Since the smallest are still very nearly 6 lbs, I'm not worried  about the disparity.  Especially since those 'little' girls can EAT like champions ;-)

After posting the pictures and video that Tamara took today (this is the most photographically documented litter I've had.  Helps to have a sighted person here the whole time for those of you who want to see pictures that can be relied upon not to be big blurs ;-).  Almost all of the pictures are courtesy of Tamara) it is time to wrap up the blog and clean the room before last feeding (after the pupsters awaken again) and sing the 3 songs and say Nighty, Nighty Nighty.  Puppy breath to all!
