10/28/20 Pupdate

I don’t know how they keep doing it but the pupsters are even cuter today than they were yesterday. They keep practicing so they are becoming more and more perfect. I got up and fed the big dogs breakfast and then went back to sleep for a little while. I didn’t get to sleep very much because there was a lot of animal activity in the yard and the dogs felt the need to call the alert. I keep neglecting to take naps so I’m pretty tired. I plan to lie down after I feed the big dogs dinner. It’s hard not to get sucked back into the puppy pen but I can play with them a few minutes after the midnight snack for the grown up dogs. The big news in the pen today is that Caly has decided that they aren’t too bad. Caly has historically NOT been interested in puppies. She was decent with hers but nothing like her SDB or Phoebe so it’s pretty interesting that she chose to interact with these puppies. Today, she kept getting into the pen with us and nobody was getting treats. The other big news is they are beginning to get TOOFERS! FauxSure has 2 tiny little sharp canines barely poking through and Fauxcus is working hard (on my fingers) on a couple in the premolar area. The others are generally just gumming on me and each other and probably won’t be far behind. Now I’m wondering if Caly was coming in to see if it was time to start hurling for the puppies. I’m going to be ready to start feeding the puppies in the next day or 2 - especially in case the big girls start hurling for them. It will be interesting (at least to me, I’m well aware that most people probably aren’t as fascinated by every little thing related to the puppies as I am) to see whether Deja joins in with the girls. Jack’s been our only dog when we had puppies and the only time he ever did it was when Jill had our first litter at home so he was around during the whelping and vomited for her. He didn’t do it for the puppies even when the bitches did. I’m going to feed the big dogs now and take the various noisy toys out of the puppy pen and go Nighty Nighty Nappy. Puppy breath to all

Visitation Protocol

I've been sending this/variations of this to people about puppy visits so I thought it might be useful information for visitors and potential owners (or entertainment for people to laugh at the crazy dog lady)

Puppies are now ready for visitors and they especially need to meet children (and men.) Just not on a day/in clothes you've worn to a shelter/dog park/around a sick dog.

If you want to prepare them for 'the rules' or our procedure:

We take off shoes (don't wear white socks because the rubber floor, even when freshly steamed can discolor white socks);

wash hands thoroughly (sing the abc song twice while we rub the soap between our hands vigorously) and

put on a smock (an old men's shirt I keep for such purposes).

Then we come quietly out into the dog room and greet the big dogs (especially the Mama so she doesn't feel like she needs to protect the babies) before we go over to see the puppies.

The puppies are in a play area and we go carefully in and sit down to let puppies come to us or an adult hand them to you. You can make lots of noise with your voice - as long as it doesn't look like it worries the mama dog (probably wait until after you've been here for a little while).

When you are ready to get out, tell us and an adult will help you (don't want to trip over a puppy and hurt you or it). They have some neat toys that you can help show them but remember they are BABIES so they are fragile (careful, quiet hands and feet but we will want you to make some loud, funny, or silly noises for them eventually.)

You might want to remind them I can't see so they need to use words (I can't hear them shake or nod their head),

Crisit’s service dog guide and the puppy she kept from the last litter (the LOTR litter between Jack and Caly he was the yellow collar AKA Strata.) He lives with Cristi and is her Guide now. He’s learning to play some dog performance and conformation but first trained for his Real Job and then the Pandemic happened. He and Phoebe are very close - when she doesn’t have puppies they lie so close together it’s hard to tell which is which.
