05/29/18 Pupdate

It seems so empty and quiet with so many of the dogs/puppies gone home.  The 2 puppies can stil generate a fair amount of noise but it isn’t the same ;-)
Today, our Aunt Debra, and cousins Haley (human) and Penny (Boston Terrier) came to visit.  First we terrorized Penny and then she was a little wild and then we all figured out how to play.  GrammieSammie and the humans reminded all of us how to settle down to an appropriate level.
Haley came with us for our evening free range romp.  We took free ranging a little too seriously and went across the little bridge to the pond.  Aunt Mama was afraid we’d fall off of the bridge, then she was afraid we’d go out on the dock and fall into the deep water. We played in the sand, in the water, on Aunt Cindi’s swim platform, the dock, on the boat platform - anywhere we could find to scare (Aunt)Mama half to death.  They were wet and sandy but nothing untoward happened.
After dinner, Penny customarily has a chew so I gave her one of their lamb ears.  After I gave one to GrammieSammie, that box was empty so the puppies got an empty box instead.  As anyone familiar with Water Dogs knows, a box is one of the BEST.TOYS. EVER. And way better than any chewy.  Eventually, they napped until almost bedtime.  Then they played with the box a little more, we did last call and they went right into their crates.  SInce it’s a while before Steven (fka Scone) is going home, I’m not putting him in a separate room yet.  (It’s easier for me to get them out in the morning if they are in the same room)
We have things to do tomorrow so I’m going to say Nighty, Nighty, Nighty.  Puppy breath to all!

5/26/17-5/27/18 Pupdate

Yesterday was another big day here.  Lots of fudgesicles were consumed.  We got outside with no accidents again - yay us! - and had a nice breakfast.  It’s really hard to remember to feed less and less ;-(.
In between baths and playing - and making sure that Cassata stayed awake since she needed to sleep on the drive to Columbus and the flight home to Colorado - I was making sure things were organized for the pickup.  There was a little mixup in the flight time so they left in a hurry.  But the GPS routed them on an extremely curvy road (NOT the best route) almost immedieately after getting off of Fudge Ck and the poor little puppy hurled.  Although she was much quieter after that,  we had all figured out they had a lot more time so they came right back and we cleaned up the puppy, carrier and rental car.  Then we gave her a tiny bit of meclizine and her daddy MUCH better directions before they had to head out for real.  She had a long drive to Columbus and then the waiting for hte flight and the flight.  Apparently, just to make it even more interesting, there was a big storm when they were supposed to take off, the wind was rocking the airplane while they were at the gate.  Poor pupsters had quite the adventure.  It sounds like she got through it unscathed and is enjoying her new family today.
Shortly after they got back on the road, Great Scott’s new family came.  We got their other dog situated and then introduced him to the puppy safely away from the MaterGator and GrammieSammie.  The big dog seemed to like the puppy and was quite tolerant of his antics.   They got loaded up and started the 9 hour drive back hoping to avoid the storms coming in.  He traveled very well anyway.
It’s VERY quiet here with just 2 puppies.  One of them is Deja so he’s staying and Scone’s new people can’t pick him up until after a pre-planned trip.  At least they aren’t all gone.
We’re doing more little jaunts outside of the dog yard each day - partly because they don’t have to give other puppies turns.  They fit so completely through the banisters on the railings and the gates that they just go through them without hesitation.  We were in the side yard and they went up onto the deck through the gate.  (I cannibalized the ex pen yesterday so there was nothing to deter them). When I called them, they came flying right back through the gate.  I think it’ll take a while before they don’t fit so I better.
They have pretty well outgrown the little Mickey Mouse fencing, too.  They can just push it where they want and go on in there.  I guess I have a lot of things to start taking down - including the massive crate for all 9 puppies.  I’ll have to put the treat n train elsewhere.  Since Caly hops up onto the smaller crate making the edge of the pen, I don’t think that’ll be a secure spot for it unless I put it in one of the sheltie crates on top of that crate.
I may wait another day to start re-doing all of that.  I’m pretty worn out and we’re supposed to pond tomorrow and Tuesday, plus my sister and niece are coming Tuesday.  It doesn’t hurt anything to have that extra space in their pen anyway.
Speaking of tired, I’m going to wind up the post and see about napping until it’s time for last call.  Nighty, nighty, nighty.  Puppy breath to all

05/25/18 10 Weeks Old!

And one less at home.  My babies are leaving the nest at an alarming (to me) rate.
We had another vaccine today.  The puppies kept screaming - for more turns.  The one getting the injection was too busy eating squirty cheese to care about the shot.  Some of them still have cheese in their hair.  I’ll give baths again in the morning.  I gave Stella (fka Red Velvet Cupcake) a bath but noticed that baths also involve squirty cheese so sometimes clean muzzles don’t last very long ;-)
The puppies were a little subdued this afternoon but wound up pretty well for some big playtime sessions outside.  We had a couple of storms with some big thunder (they looked up, I cheered and all was well). It POURED rain a couple a few different times, we only stayed outside long enough to be sure THEY didn’t care and then I was tired of getting wet so we came inside for some raucous play in the pen.
They are all apparently little interior decorators because they drag everyting around to their satisfaction.  The big purple fleece is out of the crate, upside down and a puppy is sleeping UNDER it.  Sometimes, they get under that or one of the beds and play bitey mouth with another puppy.
When they do that and then go to sleep, I have trouble finding all of my puppies (and that number’s been dwindling dramatically over the last week).  Fortunately, they all pop right up when I call them,  Unfortunately, they don’t know the difference between the me calling and it being on video so I can’t listen to recording of adorable things they’ve done unless I am far far away (that doesn’t happen too often)
I fell asleep without finishing the post last night.  I took care of the puppies and since that’s priority number 1, I’m going to post it as is and go on with our next big day ;-)

05/24/18 Pupdate

I’m trying to be a better blogger today so I’m starting this much earlier.  The puppies and I stayed in bed a little later this morning and they went back to the pen for a nap after a potty and a good breakfast.  When we are down to just Deja (or maybe Deja and the other boy who isn’t leaving until mid June), I may do a good morning light snack to start switching over to a more civilized schedule ;-). And we will definitely start varying the ‘schedule’ so that there isn’t an “I must eat at this time schedule going)
The puppies are rather greedy.  Even if they’ve eaten more than enough (I have a little trouble adjusting the amounts down as puppies leave), when they hear or see the big dogs eating, they think they need to eat again.  And as they go outside, several of them check out any dog bowls that may be out.
They are adorably annoying in that they learn things SO quickly.  For example, I reward them for going into the crate (night time, chewy time, some meals, etc.) so if ANY crate is open, they go right in it and I have to lure them out or pick them up.  I need to do a better job of closing all of the doors when I’m trying to wrangle puppies.  But at least they seem to have generalized crates ;-)
Aunt Cindi came today to bring Uncle Armada and take Nanny McPhoebe home (he LOVES her a little too much to keep them together especially while she’s acting like she’s in season).  She got a hair cut before she went home (I like brushing longer hair more than most people so it was long while she was here)
Uncle Armada isn’t the biggest fan of puppies but they LOVE him.  He’s actually hanging out with them more than I would have expected given his usual disdain for puppies.  He’s not cuddling but he is being quite tolerant.
Another puppy is leaving tomorrow.  Then I’ll have less than half of them.  They may not be missing me (I don’t want them to miss us) but I sure miss them!  We’re also practicing for Cassata to fly out on Saturday.  She seems to enjoy Sherpa practice but there’s not much they don’t seem to enjoy other than being ignored.  Good thing I don’t do it that often ;-)
Crating alone isn’t very difficult but getting puppies into separate crates is more difficult.  They pile into the first one they can if I open the door and let them inside.  It works a little better if I bring them inside one by one but the ones waiting are not very patient about it.  It’s a good problem to have, I guess.  We’re going to do a little more cuddling and then say Nighty, Nighty, Nighty.  Puppy breath to all

05/23/18 Pupdate

It’s Daddy Jack’s birthday and Great Granddam Jill’s “gotyou” day.  They are certainly very missed. Kolache went to her new home today so at least someone has something to celebrate this year.
Puppies were good again last night.  Someone fussed in the pool room so it wasn’t Deja or Red Velvet Cupcake/Bella once after the first round of songs but I sang again and the puppy stopped.  It might’ve heard one of the others getting their crate treat and the songs (they tend to want all of the turns at everything).  I got up just before 6, it was daylight and the stupid birds were making all kinds of noise (I am not a fan of birds) and got everyone outside before we had any fussing/potty accidents.  I don’t think I need to get up that early for them but I don’t want to have any incidents either.
After breakfast, naptime and playtime; we took Galley (new big sister) and Aeire (fka Kolache) up to the pond.  Galley is practicing her Courier exercises so they took turns a little.  The puppy first practiced wearing her life jacket and got her feet wet, then we crated her because it wasn’t really warm yet and worked Galley.  At one point, she was so quiet that we went back up to make sure she was ok (she was just napping like a good girly).  Then we let her have a turn.  She had a good time on and off the swim platform and in the water.  She even practiced boat loading.
Baths were given and then they packed up and left.  ;-(. I’m still not a fan of the puppies going away.  The other puppies and I played outside, took naps and had little adventures during only puppy time.  We also played in the sherpa bag so flying should be easier.
The trips out of the yard are getting more and more adventurous since the puppies can go a little further/longer now.  (It’s still not like a real dog walk but 7 weeks ago they were barely tottering around the whelping pool).  I can usually take 2 at a time for one of them each day, more than that and I can’t walk (they like to be underfoot a lot of the time.). We still go one at a time at least once, too though.
The big girls also needed time to go to the pond today (they were not amused that we went without them earlier).  So once again, I don’t really know where all of the day went but we do still have some absoutely adorable puppies to show for it.  We’re going to do a little more cuddling, go potty, crate up and sing the 4 songs.  Nighty, nighty, nighty.  Puppy breath to all!

05/22/18 Pupdate

I was too busy today to keep good notes so I’m going to have to go from memory.  Another good night in the crating game here.  I’m afraid I’ll jinx it by typing it but it seems to be going well for the puppies who have gone on to their new homes, too.
We had rain this morning so there was a lot of in and out (and some of it was when I forgot to block off the dog door before I took the puppies outside).  The Mater Gator and Nanny McPhoebe were wound up as well.  With all of the wet paws coming and going, it was rather difficult to keep the rubber room clean.  Eventually, I gave up and we decided just to have a fun day.
One of the puppies is going to fly to her new home so we got the sherpa bag back out and practiced going in and lying down for treats.  I never trust the strap so I still carry them from the bottom, too.  She seems to like that game as much as all of the others.
The Aunts (Cindi and LeAnne) came around noon.  We did some more in and out with the puppies until Kolache’s new humama and PWD sister arrived.  Louise is already on the visitor list so they didn’t get to add a new name today.  But they did (eventually) get to go to the pond again today.
The humans took the big girls first and they practiced some actual water work.  Then it stormed a little and they were hungry and thirsty so they came back down to the house to wait it out.  Eventually, Aunt LeAnne called the weather cleared, at least temporarily so we took the pupsters to the pond.  We played with them in groups of 2 and crated the remaining 4 each time.  They protested not being the one taking the turn some and enjoyed having the turn as well.  Each puppy got to play in the sand, water and take a couple of little boat rides.  It was sunny and warmer so it was pretty pleasant - even if I was wet and covered in sand.  It was noticed that I was willing to sit in the wet sand for puppies and it was unlikely I would do that otherwise.  (And I wouldn’t, I do a lot of things for the dogs that I wouldn’t normally do). We mostly managed to keep them off of the dock - we DID manage to keep them from falling off of the dock ;-)
We brought them back to the house on their little legs and into the back gate.  I’m afraid now that they know the route we go out to ‘walk’ is on the way to the pond, it might be more difficult to keep them with me.  They have pretty good recalls, I’ll just have to make sure I have a good reward. It took quite a while for them to settle down after the outing but eventually they tired out and we came back inside for a while.  They played together with chewies and napped most of the rest of the evening.  They are all asleep and I should be so I’m going to do last call and say Nighty,Nighty, Nighty.  Puppy breath to all!

05/21/18 Pupdate

I had planned an uneventful day today but with 6 9.5 week old puppies an uneventful day isn’t in the cards.  (Nor should it be).
They were good little puppies to go out for pottying and breakfast and then into the pen for a nap. I’d had sinus issues so I went back to bed, too.  When we went outside, various puppies decided to demonstrate that they, too, could use the dog door.  5 of the 6 have done it.
One of the puppies decided to demonstrate the ability to go over the short ex pen (I’m actually a little amazed that none of them have done that yet.). So I took them all back outside (and eventually remembered to block the dog door since more came back inside to check on me), and changed it out for a taller one.
We had several thunderstorms today with some really big rain. Not so much thunder but enough to count.  We ran outside to ‘enjoy’ it a couple of times and just stayed inside for some.  At least the electricity didn’t go out.
Nanny McPhoebe is quite distressed by the length of time it takes them to chew a lamb ear or a tendon.  She gets one when they do but hers is always gone much quicker and she worries about theirs.  And the taller ex pen doesn’t stop her.
Caly was on top of one of the crates to their pen this evening. I have no idea what she was doing other than demonstrating for the puppies.  I hope they didn’t take careful note of that.
Wonder what tomorrow will bring.  Nighty, nighty, nighty.  Puppy breath to all

05/20/18 Pupdate

Another bad day for me.  2 more of the  puppies went home with their new people today.  It sounds like it is going well for the 3 that have left but I miss all of them.
They met 2 more new people and another PWD today.  Other than the visitors, we mostly had a quiet day.
Only having 6 here seems like so few puppies. It does help to have been counting down from 9 instead of up but I still miss the 3 that have left.
It didn’t rain today so we finally mowed the dog yard again.  The freshly bathed puppies had a big time playing in the grass clippings (it had gotten pretty long).  It brushes out but they were really cute wallering around.
At least nobody leaves tomorrow.  We’re going to have a few extra cuddles tonight and then do our night time routine.  It’s supposed to storm tomorrow so I’m not sure what we are doing but we’ll have lots of fun and cuddles.  Nighty, nighty, nighty.

05/18/18 9 Weeks Old! And 5/19/18 Pupdate

We’re trying to have a last good day of everyone all together.  I woke the puppies up at daylight (I’d rather wake them than miss their need to go out ot potty.  With them in 4 different places, it takes a few minutes.)
The vet came this morning to do our health certificates for travel.  It went well except for me having no clue what day it is.  I kept saying things had happened in July (May is what I meant). When we were finished, she brought her Sheltie in to meet them.  It’s always nice for puppies to get to see other breeds.
Aunt LeAnne came and took the 9 week old pictures.   Deja’s pictures use his official new color for the collar ;-) She came back a little while later with her daughter (another new person) and visited the puppies.  They also got a video for me of all 9 of them zooming back into the pen at the beep of the Treat n Train since they won’t all 9 be together after tonight.
And that’s all I got written Friday because people started coming to get their puppies ;-(. Blueberry Muffin is now Ptolemy and had a good trip home.  Thankfully, his new people have been keeping me informed but I still miss him.
As he was leaving, Fauxstess’ new family arrived so all of the puppies met 5 new people yesterday.  8 of them have seen Fauxstess’ (now Zoey’s) new housemate, a black lab.  The old girls are not so welcoming ;-)
We’ve had a busy day going in and out and demonstrating their velociraptor impressions. We had a several instances of rain and some decent wind but not a real storm.  This afternoon, when they napped, several of the humans napped too.  Some of us really needed it ;-)
Tomorrow is going to be a day heavy on the fudgesicles since Fauxstess Zoe(y) and Pink SweetTart (Stella ) are going to their new homes.  Zoey will live near her Uncle James and Cousin Quinn in Texas and Stella will live somewhat local.  She’ll come back to stay with me for a while in July so that will help.  Feeding tomorrow will be challenging because I still keep making enough for 9 and I’ll be down to 6 by lunchtime.  This is my least favorite part.
I’m going to go cuddle with the remaining 8 and get a few extra cuddles from the 2 leaving tomorrow.  Nighty Nighty nighty, puppy breath (they still have it) to all!

5/18/18 The Fellowship is Broken

Leaving Cristi’s today was bittersweet knowing I’ll never see them all together again. It is time for them to continue their journey through life on separate paths. We wish them and their new people well and we will miss them dearly. The first puppy to leave for his new life was on the road Friday evening. Two more will depart on Sunday followed by two more next week. And the others soon after. At least we will still have Deja.

On a happier note, they were 9 weeks old on Friday. We took pictures with bakery props in keeping with the bakery theme. Look for those later on their Facebook page. And speaking of Facebook, the pups should all feel free to continue to use that page to keep all of us updated on their lives (hint, hint).

Happy trails and happy tails to all our pupsters!

05/17/18 Pupdate

Happy Birthday to the puppies’ MiMi!
I don’t know why last night’s post wouldn’t post, I kept getting messages about it not saving.  I finally turned off wifi and turned it back on this am to get it to post.
We had a pretty good night but one of the puppies in the rubber room (not the ones in the private accommodations or the halfway houses) was fussing at 5 so I got everyone up and out for pottying.  We had a quiet potty trip (as quiet as it can be with 9 puppies - at least 3 of which can figure out the dog door to let themselves back inside but then may realize they still need to potty so they are doing the potty dance and I am trying to get them back outside.  They are torn between trying to go back out dog door or trying to get in to potty pan.  It’s quite the adventure, I need to be better about remembering to block off the dog door but I haven’t yet perfected that system.
Then we came back inside and napped until almost 7.  Breakfast was yet another adventure.  I took them all outside to potty and came back in to prepare food for all of the dogs.  (Some on paper plates so they are used to that in addition to metal bowls). Since it’s more involved to feed separately in crates (and some in private rooms), I feed the big girls in their crates first (to get them out of the way). But I also forgot to block off the dog door so I had to get 3 puppies back outside while all 9 were screaming about hearing breakfast.
Eventually, I got the bites ready and carried puppies near their chosen venue for ‘bite having.’  Then I went around and served the dessert chewies.  I am glad I am not a full time waitress, I must say.
We had repeats of this scenario at lunch and dinner time plus we had some chewing in crate times.  I did remember to block off the dog door for those times.
I can’t believe they’ll be 9 weeks old tomorrow.  And starting to leave tomorrow evening.  I am so NOT looking forward to that at all.  I understand they need to go and the new families will enjoy them immensely but I’M going to miss them.  I got some extra cuddles today and will probably do that tomorrow, too.
They were quietish for a lot of today, not nearly as velociraptorish as yesterday.  They ARE PWD puppies so they still do it, just not as much as yesterday ;-)
I have a lot to do before bedtime (and I keep stopping to cuddle puppies) so I’ll say Nighty Nighty Nighty until it’s time to say it to the pupsters.  Puppy breath to all!

05/16/18 Pupdate

My goodness these puppies are adorable.  We’ve redone the little lion behinds on all but one ( I know where she’s going and the new owner prefers the, GASP, retriever trim and did the beginnings on some muzzles, too.  Cindi and I were both amazed at how much hair had grown in 2.5 weeks.  We ended up having to crate Nanny McPhoebe and eventually the MaterGator, too because they kept jumping up onto the grooming table the help with the squirty cheese.  Apparently, Caly is getting back into shape quickly.
And we dremeled their nails!  I cut them but they are so much less sharp and scratchy when they’ve been dremeled.  Their teeth are still plenty sharp but they at least SEEM to besinking them into ur flesh less.  There are times that they become overstimulated and turn into a pack of velociraptors and then they DO use their little needle teeth (with the nice scissor bites).  When it’s just one, it’s pretty simple to escape but when there are several grabbling at one’s clothes, etc.  it is MUCH more difficult to get away.  It’s hilarious that such cute little hairballs can be so awful.  They haven’t torn my clothes but I understand how the little girl in the old sunscreen commercial felt except she only had to deal with one.  It shouldn’t make me laugh so hard (maybe I’m a little tired) but it does even just thinking about it now.
We’ve been practicing crating alone.  I wonder how many non-dog people would find it strange that I am receiving dirty laundry in the mail ;-). It seems to help the puppies so I do it.2 of the crates are in rooms where the other dogs are not so they puppies get used to being alone(ish).
Feeding in crates alone is more difficult with 9 puppies but 6 puppy size crates.  There is MUCH wailing/screaming but it’s the puppies who are either waiting their turn or have just had their turn and want another making all of the noise.
We had a big thunderstorm last night.  It’s about time the puppies got to experience one in real life not just on the CDs.  They didn’t pay any attention to it.  Good pupsters.
The MaterGator worked on scenting the puppy blankets some today.  Just another use for ‘go to mat’. She very kindly gathered them up afterward, too.  Uncle Indy wanted in on the action so he got to help with that, too.
I can’t believe the puppies are starting to go to their new homes this weekend. I do NOT like this part.  Even though I COULD sleep more these days, now I don’t want to miss anything becuase they are leaving soon.  It’s hard enough making sure they get time without people in sight/hearing range as it is, now I want to cuddle them all constantly.  Fortunately, they aren’t all going far away (and Deja is staying). BTW, I have identified Deja, hopefully we can get some pictures ofeach of them before they leave.  We did pretty well on picutres for a while and then it kind of fell apart.  I even had themes for each week.  I guess if I am going to have regrets of things we didn’t do with the puppies, taking pictures is one of the best to have because it doesn’t affect their development.  It’s getting late so I am going to do last call, get the babies in crates, sing the 4 songs, and say Nighty Nighty Nighty.  Puppy breath to all!

05/14/18- 05/15/18 Pupdate

Time to play catch up on the blog again.  Sunday afternoon, the puppies met 2 new children and a few of them practiced sitting, recall (from a few feet) and a little bit of puppy pushups with them.
Much as expected, the puppies recovered more quicky from their adventures at the crawfish boil than the old people.
Monday, we got up early because the MSU was up early for work and the puppies easily start stirring at daylight.  I don’t want them to fuss in their crates  so we go out pretty quickly.  They had a little interaction with the MaterGator (she nurses them a little and then they play a little in the mornings) and then they eat breakfast together.
They usually come inside after a short playtime and rest for a while (that while gets shorteer every day). Some of the time we stay inside - at least until someone decides they MUST POTTY NOW and everyone wants to go outside too.  It’s so hot, we play with the hose and the wading pool.  A couple of them have even figured out that they like to drink from the hose.
Aunt Cindi and Aunt LeAnne came yesterday and we did some grooming on big dogs and a few little dogs.  The rest of the little dogs are slated for tomorrow.  We may even get a whole muzzle done but I’m not holding my breath.  They stand very well for the butt shaving as long as we have the appropriate equipment - quiet clippers and an empty 12 pack of pop box smeared with squirty cheese.  Sounds weird but it’s the perfect height, we can put the trimmed off hair in it and then throw it away instead of attempting to clean it.
They have discovered that if they climb onto something, they have a better chance of climbing/jumping onto even higher things.  So the picnic table is now turned over and everything is as far away from high things as I can get them.  They’ve tried to leap from the raised bed over the gate by the door; climbed onto the milk crate to attempt to go into the window of the playhouse and use the milk crate on the way to/from their mama’s chair.  Since they can do the chair on their own, I let that one continue but I’ve thwarted the other ones.
The playhouse windows are fun to stand on either side on hind legs and play bitey mouth.  I don’t recall other litters doing that but it’s possible.
Items are no longer safe on top of the crates but so far, and I hope I don’t jinx it by typing this, nobody has climbed on top of the crates yet.
Chewies have been mastered both the why and the how.  Maybe that will save our flesh a little ;-)
I’ve been taking them out individually for some ‘only dog time’ and we do more things now so it takes longer.  At just 10 minutes a puppy, it still takes an hour and a half each time but they seem to enjoy it. They cuddle sweetly and look at the world while we swing and sing on the porch.
I’m doing the prep stuff for their departures - I am NOT looking forward to that at all but it starts this weekend- while they nap and occasionally while they are awake so they can get used to not always being the center of the human’s world.  They generally take it well (unless they have to potty)
We’re divided up for nighty nighty nighty time.  After they get good and sleepy, a couple are going to be divided up even more.  Then I’ll have to make sure I get up before they desperately need to go outside, too.  I’ll sing the 4 songs again when we do that just in case.  Puppy breath to all.

05/12/18 Pupdate

We had a BUSY day.  This morning was mostly within our normal routine.  The puppies had a good night for a pleasant tomorrow, awoke and went outside for potty and had a healthy breakfast and then ran around for a little while and played like wild little monsters.  Several of them have now mastered getting into their Mama’s chair so they inlcuded that in their play/alok running.
Eventually, they settled down so we came inside for a nap in the pen.  When I remember where the remote to the TreatnTrain is, they go flying into the pen like an adorable little herd of black somethings. I gave them some more water (filling water is a full time job) and they went nighty nappy. I tried to take care of some email instead of going back to bed because we had plans for this afternoon.
They woke up and we repeated the process sans breakfast and with more playing (including playing with the hose). When I got them back inside after that session, they got to hear the lawn mower, the (battery powered) weedeater, the tractor and the leaf blower.  (I don’t let them outside for the lawn mower unless someone is there with them to make sure nobody escapes).
Then took a quick shower to get ready for our excursion.  They were still asleep when it was time to leave so they were a little slow but managed to wake up and potty before I loaded them into the van.
They were a little fussy at the beginning but almost everyone settled down for the ride.
***This is the point last night where I was too sleepy to type anymore so I’m finishing it now.  Sorry for the delay***
They’d all get quiet and we’d have to stop for a light and someone would awaken and fuss a little (occasionally a lot) but after 45 minutes or so,we finally arrived at the crawfish boil.
It was REALLY hot (in the 90s with a ‘feel of 104’ - and that was earlier whne we were mowing) so we set up an ez up in the large fenced yard at Aunt Colleen’s and Uncle Jeremy’s.  There weren’t many people there yet (we tried to get there before the crowd) and the puppies were warm and tired so most of them snuggled into the cool grass for a little siesta after a few minutes of getting drinks, pottying, snuggling visitors etc.)
After that little rest, they were QUITE active.  They met at least 36 new adults and 11 children.  I had planned to leave earlier than we did but people (especially children which we don’t see too often) kept turning up so we wanted to meet them as well.  Toward the end, they puppies definitely needed to settle down and sleep but their Uncle Trek kept coming out and winding everyone up.  When he convinced them to go around the house to the furthest reaches of the yard and attempt the dog door (it’s a high-ish ramp for puppies), we got the ex pen we were using to protect the rose bush (apparently, rose hips are something they’d like included in their diet) and put them in it to settle down.  One puppy was still over stimulated and caught a tooth on the ex pen somehow.  Aunt Colleen got it loose but she got a nice little lancet wound to her finger - they could help people to their finger pricks for blood tests). I had to sing some of the songs to them to get all of them to finish settling down but they eventually did so we loaded them up into the crates in the van and, after a few additional visits/good byes headed home.  Nobody made a peep.
We took them into the dog yard for potties and then into the pen - it makes a BIG difference when I don’t have the TNT remote.  They follow me (from under my feet) to see where we are going instead of running ahead into the pen.  I gave them some water and I went to take a shower/lie down until last call.  I was so tired/sleepy at last call that I couldn’t get the doors on the crates so they had free range of the pen all night.  They pottied in the pan but mostly just moved around to different places to sleep according to the 8 million motion detected videos.  I didn’t even get my phone on do not disturb but I didn’t wake up from the camera notification buzzes until 5am.
The puppies woke up bright eyed and bushy tailed from our adventures. I’m wishing I didn’t give up caffeine 15 years ago...
In case we don’t get any more written today - Happy Mother’s Day and Happy Birthday to their DiDi!  Puppy breath to all. Nighty Nighty Nappy if you are lucky - or nap on my behalf.  I’m too busy cuddling/playing with puppies.

05/11/18 Pupdate 8 Weeks Old!

These puppies are absolutely beyond adorable.  Even when they are wild little monsters!  We tried to spend a lot of time out enjoying the sunshine today (partly because 9 puppies need to go potty a lot and when one goes outside, they all want to go outside so it’s simpler to stay out there plus it was a nice day to be in the sunshine.)
It was a little warm so when the puppies started going to sleep in mid afternoon, I brought them inside where it’s cooler.  But apparently, cooling them down wakes them up so it took a while before they settled back into a nap.  I needed one too but they go to sleep faster and sleep a lot more soundly than I do.  Although, they are beginning to wake up when they hear me coming.
There was a lot of helicopter traffic today.  I don’t know what it was about but it was good for the puppies to hear/see.   They paid attention to the first couple that flew over (or the first couple of times the same one flew over, I don’t know) but generally ignored the rest.
We played with the hose/water a fair amount today.  Some of the puppies come running whenever I get it out so I adjust the spray to let them get a mist and/or make it ‘rain’ by spraying it straight up in the air.  There is so much pollen blowing around that I need to wash the deck off fairly often too so they get to play in that water as well.  This evening, I left it lying on the deck after rinsing (I was receiving so much PWD ‘help’ that it was easier to just leave it there for a while).  I realized when there were puppies mouthing the ‘switch’ that I was living dangerously but fortunately, they didn’t spray me.  They like being wet a lot more than I do. (I know I love a strange breed to be someone that doesn’t enjoy being wet very much)
King of the Hill continues to be the height of fun.  Today a couple of them mastered getting into the camp bench chair that we got for their MamaGator to use to be out of their reach.  She wasn’t in it at the time (I was for the first few times, then they just started doing it at will).
Their dremeled toenails still feel a lot better ut the little needle teeth are still very sharp.  I THINK they may have used them on my legs a little less today.  They do talk to each other about how to use them gently and the older girls definitely tell them what’s acceptable and what isn’t (although they are covered in hair so it doesn’t seem to hurt them as easily.
They have decided that the branches of the Burning Bushes sticking through the fence above their reach are a very coveted prize and will bark and jump at them.  Their great aunt Phoenix would jump up and pick apples from the tree so I guess they come by it honestly.  It is further indication that they know to look up for interesting things in the world.
It only took 8 weeks, but we finally have a litter theme for their registered names, one of LeAnne’s favorite books, Lord of the Rings.
It’s time for us to call it a night, we have a big day planned tomorrow (we took it easy today and just did home things).  Puppy breath to all!  Nighty Nighty Nighty

05/10/18 Pupdate

Perching on top of things (the milk crate, the tote with the visitor shirts, the castle sandbox) is apparenlty what all of the cool puppies are doing these days.
We met another new person today and another new dog - a golden retriever puppy for the conformation evaluations.
The puppies are getting cuter and smarter pretty much every minute.  Today, they had their toenails dremeled.  We didn’t even cut them first.  It took a little squirty cheese towards the end on some of them but they feel so nice much nicer now.
They really like the treat n train and if no big dog gets in the way, all 9 will run into the pen and jump over the little gate.  That’s seriously cute.  (Sensing the theme here?)
They got to hear a real thunderstorm today.  They paid no attention to it whatsoever.  The rain didn’t slow them down either (we were outside during some of the rain but not the thunderstorm, I did open the doors so they could hear it better though.)
I’ll try to take better notes tomorrow, for now I’m off to sing Soft Kitty and the 3 songs and tuck the pupsters into bed.  Nighty, nightym nighty. Puppy breath to all.

5/9/18 Pupdate

Another eventful day for the people and pupsters.. They get to nap a lot more than the humans.  They’ve all met some new people and did very well on the trip there and back.  No puking ( a little drool though) and very little fussing.
Some of the ones who were evaluated yesterday were fussing in the crate in the vehicle today so I did the nighty nighty nappy thing and they’d quiet down for a while.  We were talkng about it being weird but effective and then we talked about the 3 songs.  It has been suggested that I add Soft Kitty into the repertoire so I’m going to try it tonight.  I think I’ll have to add it at the beginning because I’ve been doing the other routine for nearly 16 years now.
They were happy to come home into the air conditioning and so was I.  They had a little siesta and then played and played.  If the big dogs don’t intercept them, I can get them all of the way into the pen pretty well between the Treat n Train and me going in there, too.
This morning, the golden retriever that Vera brought with her (she’s in training for their assistance dog program) joined up with the pack of 9 for the little breakfast forage and some minor romping.  She even tried to join in the trip to the milk bar (there wasn’t room for her). Mater Gator played with her in the floor for 10-20 minutes this morning when her real puppies went to sleep.  She played with her like a puppy, not the bouncy barky play she normally does.  It was interesting since Caly hasn’t ever been too into puppies.
I fill their dish with water pretty often because they also think it’s a good place to sleep or part of their race course.  I don’t put too much in it at a time for the same reason but everytime I add water (it’s rarely actually empty when I add water), I also end up baptizing puppies because they all stick their heads in the way.  It’s a very PWD behavior but as someone who does NOT enjoy water on their face, I’m always fascinated that the puppies do it.
There was a partial roll of papers towels outside somewhere last night because I remember Aunt Cindi and Aunt Colleen talking about them.  It is now shredded in the playhouse.  A good time appears to have been had by all.
2 of the puppies have now mastered the dog door.  I am NOT encouraging it but I’m also not stopping it.  I have to really block it off when I don’t want them to do it.  This morning, I finally put those 2 in the inside pen and they played and napped together.  I guess the playhouse (full of shredded paper towel and siblings) was too crowded ;-)
I’m really sleepy and it takes a while for me to get the doors on their crates so I’m going to start the nighty nighty nighty routine.  Puppy breath to all!

5/8/18 Pupdate

5/8/18 Pupdate
I’m a bad blogger but I’ve been providing stilmuatling environments for hte pupsters.     Yesterday we had new people and dog visitors; ate our first chicken wings; had a trip to the pond area ( a few of us waded, several of us scared everybody by running onto the dock and even over onto the boat platforms and we all got to watch our Mama wildly retrieve) and just generally had a good time being puppies.
This morning, we had a trip in the van. We were almost all good riders on the first trip and were all nice and quiet on the way home but one of us threw up.  Those roads are REALLY curvy and we had a lot of start/stop traffic on the way home.  Then we sat there all day taking turns going in and playing in a new place with strange people.  Only 5 of us got turns today, the other 4 are tomorrow.  We did all kinds of fun, weird stuff and some people talked about what we did for a really long time each time.  The people are all exhausted but we were raring to go when we finally got home about 6 pm.
We’re going to go potty and say Nighty Nighty Nighty.  Puppy breath to all!

5/6/18 Pupdate

5/6/18 Pupdate
Happy 8th Birthday to our Magic Trick litter (Jilly and Boo)!  The puppies hope their great aunts and uncles were appropriately spoiled.
9 puppies is a LOT for one potty pan.  It POURED rain most of yesterday and last night (and yet we didn’t get a real storm for them to hear) so I didn’t take them outside at the late feeding.  They all went in the pan but the alfalfa all had to be dumped out when I cleaned this morning.  They weren’t thrilled with me not taking them outside to potty but the rain didn’t lessen and we’d (mostly me) been soaked enough.
It continued this morning so after they had breakfast and I took them out to potty, I put them on the side porch and deck so they could stay a little drier while I cleaned out their pen.  This afternoon, it finally cleared up and we got to enjoy the sunshine and lack of rain.  Their mama’s double chair finally even dried.
We had visitors today and the puppies interacted (generally with open mouths); played iwth toys and each other and sacked out.  They are sleeping less and playing more, a sign they are growing up I guess.  Not certain I am ready for that.
A few different puppies have intentionally interacted with the buzzer toys.  It’s not the same puppy or the same buzzer but they do seem to prefer the one that sounds like they are playing video games.  GrammieSammie has Easy buttons in english and spanish so I could do directionals with her and know if she had gone to the right spot, we have a lot more choices now.  I’m not sure which Fenzi class used these (I heard these mentioned on one of the facebook groups so it’s probably a class in my library) but I’m glad someone posted the link because they are great for this too.
GrammieSammie and Caly have started telling the puppies that it’s not ok to bite the big dogs.  They tell each other when they are biting too hard.  I hope they get the memo soon because sometimes they get my leg a little hard (they are apparently much more gentle with my face and hands than other people though).
We have another big day tomorrow and this was another day I didn’t take a nap so I’m going to get the pupsters all settled in for the night.  Puppy breath to all.  Nighty nighty nighty

5/4/18 7 Weeks Old!

I can’t believe that the babies are 7 weeks old!  (I also can’t believe my nephew is being graduated with his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees today.)
The pupsters have had a semi quiet afternoon since they received a vaccination this morning.  They seem to be completely back to normal now though.
They also had their microhips inserted.  They stood on the grooming table like the good little dogs they are.  I helped steady them and Aunt Cindi was on squirty cheese duty.
Yesterday, they found a breach in our defenses.  Two separate times,  a puppy was outside the fence in the back.  Last night when it happened, Daddy and Carol moved some of the larger rocks to the position where it appeared to have gone through.  This morning, a puppy appeared outside of the fence when Aunt Cindi was on puppy watch.  I was going to call my sister because she took pictures where they were trying to get out last time (after we shored up the defenses) to see what I needed to do but the MSU remembered that for a short period of time, they can squeeze their little cartilage bones through the space between the gate and the wall and a pool noodle should stop that.  I fixed one into place, I wonder how long it will be before they are biting chunks out of it and how long we will be finding bitten off pieces of said noodle later ;-)
This evening while I was spraying the debris off of the deck/letting puppies play in the hose spray and Daddy called out to me from the rubber room.  I assumed he was just telling me he was back with dinner but he had a puppy in his arms.  One of the puppies was inside with Caly but I was certain all 9 had been around the food dishes for dinner.  As I was carrying the others back inside (they were wet and I didn’t want all of them running across the floor), here came that puppy bursting through the dog door just as proud of his little dog self as he could be.
They’ve been doing all kinds of cute things in the pen tonight.  It sounds like they are playing a video game with all of the wallowing all over the buttons that make noises and light up.  I think they are hitting it while they roll around in the cat tunnel.  It amazes me how some of them can sleep through it but none of them really pay attention to any of them.
They nearly killed the singing, animated reindeer last night so I took it back out of the pen again. It may be done for this litter if I want to use it again for another litter later.
We’re going to go outside in the dark for last call tonight as a group.  Too many of them protested my desire for them to use the potty pen last night.
Group crate sleeping is going well thus far.  It’s almost time to up the ante again. Nighty Nighty Nighty. Puppy breath to all

05/03/18 Pupdate

Today was somewhat less eventful than yesterday but we still managed to have some new experiences.
I had Botox this morning (this is not a good time to be having daily migraines so I’m glad we stayed on schedule.  By Tues, I should be golden again) so Aunt Cindi came to stay with the pupsters.  I THINK I made it a little easier for her by getting up and getting ready before it was time for puppies to get up so I could keep them up and playing. They had just settled in for a snooze in the playhouse when she arrived.  They didn’t stay asleep though so they kept her entertained until we got back.
Before she left, I gated the puppies onto the deck, armed her with a can of squirty cheese and fired up the lawn mower.  Much as suspected, the puppies were unfazed by the lawn mower but very happy with the exposure to the squirty cheese ;-). I don’t want puppies/dogs in yards with people cutting grass but I want them to be able to be ok if neighbors are mowing or they are out for a walk and pass someone doing that.
They played a little more, played in the hose, had a nice lunch, we   and then settled in for a nap.  A new human came while they were napping out in the warm
Shortly after she left, another new human came to meet them.  They were mostly pretty sleepy when she was here so they were cuddly and gentle for the holding.
After she left, we came inside for naptime.  We got up around dinnertime when some of the puppies were insistent that they needed to go outside to potty.  They’ve gotten pretty good at running across the room in a fairly straight path and heading out the door.  It’s pretty cute to have a herd of puppies stampeding across the room.
I made dinner more interesting by feeding them in the wading pool. (One of their former whelping pools).  It had some water in it from the hose play earlier in the day but that didn’t seem to slow anyone down.
Didi and Mimi (aka Daddy and Carol) arrived this evening for a visit.  Cooper (their uncle by virtue of being my brother), their North American Shepherd came too but so far he has not interacted with the puppies.  Or acknowledged them.  I’ll probably keep them separated from him just to be safe - for him and them.
Tonight, I close the crate doors at least for part of the night.  Wish us luck.  Puppy breath to all. Nighty Nighty Nighty

05/02/18 Pupate

We had a weird day today.  Every day is a little weird because That Lady aka Aunt Mama is always saying we need to experience new things but and they are always enjoyable or at leaast ignorable (like some of those CDs).  First, Aunt Mama got us up early and took us outside for breakfast and playtime.  We stayed outside for a long time and she kept encouraging us to play instead of taking us back in the house and singing the 3 songs and telling us to go Nighty Nighty Nappy.
Eventually, we couldn’t stay awake any longer so we went inside the playhouse for a nap.  But about 15 minutes later, Aunt Cindi and Aunt Leanne came to see us so we woke up and ran around some more.  Aunt Mama kept going in and out and carrying some of our stuff around - and not just into the laundry room to wash like she usually does.  Eventually, she started carrying US out to the big van we rode home in (we don’t remember much about that trip since our ears and eyes weren’t open and we were generally pretty sleepy) and put us in crates.
We still aren’t sure how we feel about being in crates but for the most part it seems ok.  She always makes sure we have our familiar smelling blankies/beds/toys in them but they are smaller than the yard and deck.  Nanny McPhoebe and GrammieSammie didn’t get in the van with us but our Mama did.  Some of us fussed a little but they sang the 3 songs and we quieted down. Until the van stopped at the end of Fudges Ck so they sang us quiet again.  That worked until they finally got on something called the interstate and we quieted down for most of the rest of the way.  A couple of us threw up but we managed not to get it all over each other.
Eventually we got ‘there’ and there was a whole bunch of moving us out of crates and letting these strange ladies do stuff to our eyes.  Other than having to wait in those crates, it wasn’t bad.  But Aunt Mama figured out how to give us squirty cheese and the ladies held us and passed us around a little bit.  One lady looked in all of our eyes and then we all got arranged back into the crates in the van and started back home.  We didn’t fuss this time, in fact we slept most of the way home.  We were still quiet even if we weren’t sleeping.
And then we FINALLY got to go back into our yard and run and play and have some REAL dinner  since breakfast was kibble and lunch was pretty light too in case we got sick in the car (nobody did on the way home).  We played and played and played.  It started getting pretty dark so we came inside to play some more.  What a big day, no wonder Aunt Mama says it’s time to sing the 3 songs to us.  Puppy breath to all, nighty, nighty, nighty

May 1, 2018 Happy Purebred Dog Day!

5/1/18 Pupdate. Happy Purebred Dog Day!
I’m not feeling my best (thank goodness Botos is day after tomorrow) and am trying to get ready for our drive to Louisville and back for puppy CERFs (that’s not what they are called any more but old habit die hard.  It’s still an eye exam by a Veterinary Ophthalmologist and there aren’t any nearby to us.  We like this one a lot and the drive is easy-ish - all interstate but hopefully not all under construction) so this is going to be mostly just the notes I took on iffen today

Another good night, took them out because it was in 40s but did bring them back inside after breakfast and potties (not necessarily in that order)

Tunnel is big hit, through, hamster wheel, over the top.  So far nobody is balancing on top while another rolls it but we just put it out today ;-)
Dragging box around
Everyone naked so hard to tell apart but everytime one plays with a tennis ball, I get all excited (until we switched to monkey paws; their DaddyJack LOVED retrieving tennis balls.  When we switched to monkey paws, he ONLY took it by the knot part - no slobber on your hand ;-)

‘Foraged’ a little for kibble dinner.
After lunch and playtime, Aunt LeAnne and I called them inside and except for a couple of ‘off course’ while followed big dogs, they did pretty well coming to pen.  Some came in and went back out.  Obviously, I need to up my reinforcement rate ;-). I did better calling them in at dark
The ball pit pool became of interest today when I put the real toys in it
It was very warm (rather hot in sunshine) so I did my hosing things off with puppies out there. Some were fascinated, some were indifferent.  Nobody avoided it and the wet spots were highly sought resting places.
I didn’t spray anyone directly but I let mist go over them and made it ‘rain’ a few times too.
Apparently, we’re staying outside until dark tonight since Mater and Nanny still playing with them.

Realized today, puppies need a good thunderstorm (preferably at night or naptime so as not to get in our way)
They can carry/drag pretty big items, maybe they are part ant
Currently having 4 way tug of war with jolly ball

They had figured out how to go around the little mickey mouse fence (seriously a micky mouse fence, not a euphemism) to get into the space with the grill, the dirty puppy laundry tote, the poop/glove bucket and the door (door, door, door - I say it repeatedly so they start learning to watch out for opening/closing doors) so I blocked the access point with a piece of ex pen.  They protested rather vociferously when they dicovered that.  And then ran off to play with something else.

Tomorrow will be a long day for me since I have to try to keep them up after breakfast since we are traveling during normal am playtime (and we know I’m not a big morning person) but I will try to at least report on the trip/results.  I don’t expect anything bad (since they are only 6.5 weeks, may be ‘puppy spots’ that resolve as their eyes mature - we usually don’t have them at 8 weeks) but if you don’t check, you don’t know.  And for now, we’ll send puppy breath and say Nighty Nighty nappy
