Sept 22, 2014 9 Weeks Old

Fin, Tootsie and T2J (still looking for his new name) each had a good first night in their new homes. I guess my time introducing them to crates and the bedtime routine is still well spent. I'm glad it makes it easier on the new owners but I'm more concerned about the puppies' happiness.

Keeper (fka Kodiak) and Chipmunk had a good day. They seem content enough to play with each other, the mamaBug, me and whoever else turns up. They had some good naps and several good romps and a visit from Keeper's people this evening. At least he's still here tonight.

I haven't made their pen any smaller yet, not certain I will before the little girly leaves. It's a LOT more fun making things bigger for growing puppies than taking it down after they leave. At least T2J will be nearby and I should see the others occasionally.

Sept 21, 2014 Leaving the nest 1

It's been a busy few days, sorry about the lack of blogging. 3 puppies are on their way home (one is going to be a Villager so he went by way of puppy class).

Thanks to Vera and Kim for temperament evaluations yesterday. Hopefully they will make it home safely!

Visitation Protocol

I've been sending this/variations of this to people about puppy visits so I thought it might be useful information for visitors and potential owners (or entertainment for people to laugh at the crazy dog lady)

Puppies are now ready for visitors and they especially need to meet children (and men.) Just not on a day/in clothes you've worn to a shelter/dog park/around a sick dog.

If you want to prepare them for 'the rules' or our procedure:

We take off shoes (don't wear white socks because the rubber floor, even when freshly steamed can discolor white socks);

wash hands thoroughly (sing the abc song twice while we rub the soap between our hands vigorously) and

put on a smock (an old men's shirt I keep for such purposes).

Then we come quietly out into the dog room and greet the big dogs (especially the Mama so she doesn't feel like she needs to protect the babies) before we go over to see the puppies.

The puppies are in a play area and we go carefully in and sit down to let puppies come to us or an adult hand them to you. You can make lots of noise with your voice - as long as it doesn't look like it worries the mama dog (probably wait until after you've been here for a little while).

When you are ready to get out, tell us and an adult will help you (don't want to trip over a puppy and hurt you or it). They have some neat toys that you can help show them but remember they are BABIES so they are fragile (careful, quiet hands and feet but we will want you to make some loud, funny, or silly noises for them eventually.)

You might want to remind them I can't see so they need to use words (I can't hear them shake or nod their head),

She was the Yellow collar brown girl from Phoebe and Deja’s litter. She lives with Daniel, Lana and Scott but loves visiting her Daddy Deja. Auntie Em - from our first litter of Jill and Spencer.

Carmela has a “double dose” of Jill (through Phoebe and Deja) and it shows in her mothering skills, thank goodness

He lives with Crisit and is her Guide now. He loves puppies and is the best Daddy dog ever (just ask any of his children except Tetra who is currently going through a rebellious teenage phase 😉)

At the Bridge now. Co-owned with Dog Cindi. Lived with Cindi and the Ice Cream Truck (Pete) Bela is quite the diva these days, we’re not sure what she’s going to think about sharing her house with ANOTHER puppy ;-)
